This track was opened in April 1999 and was laid out to meet RAC guidelines. It is a demanding course with lots of opportunity for overtaking. Overall width is 6.5m wide at all points with a minimum 3m grass runoff both sides. It has eight bends, at least three of which require a degree of skill to get around at speed. A special type of tarmac was used to give a very high grip and it will not soften in the heat of summer. All bends have concrete inside kerbs (2 - 5 cm high) and concrete rumble strips on the outside, some of which are upto two metres wide. Floodlighting was added in January 2001 so that we can still operate on dark evenings.
We operate two types of hire kart, although only one type can used in any one session.
Our prokarts are BIZ karts JK2 type with a single large Honda GX270 four stroke engine of 9hp. Gearing is set to give a top speed of 50mph , although if the track were longer they would accelerate upto 70mph plus.
Our intermediate karts are BIZ karts JK2 type with a single Honda GX200 four stroke engine of 6.5Hp. Gearing is set to give a top speed of 40mph.
Timing is provided by a computerised AMB Tranx2 system with AMB140 type transponders on all the karts, this is accurate to 1/100th of a second and displays to 1/1000th of a second.
